Study Abroad: Application

To apply for the Mexico Solidarity Network Study Abroad Program:

1) Download the Approval of Participation form and Schedule for the semester you plan to attend to bring to your school's study abroad advisor and/or your academic advisor to ensure that your institution will accredit the program.  If you need a list of universities that have accepted the program's credit, email us at MSN@MexicoSolidarity.org and we'll be happy to send it to you and/or your academic advisor.
 
2) Download and complete the Application (in pdf to fax in and Word to fill out online).  To pay the $25 application fee, just go here and fill out the donation page making sure to write the semester you are applying to and SAP in the comments box.   Make note on your application that you have made a payment online so we can confirm payment. 

3) Forward the final page of your application (Activist or Academic Reference Form) to your references for completion.  Ask them to email their completed forms to MSN@MexicoSolidarity.org or fax them into (773) 583-7738.

4) Once we receive your completed application (including application fee), we will arrange to have a telephone interview. Offers of admission are generally made within two weeks of the interview and reciept of references.

5) After you are accepted, you must send a non-refundable deposit of $500 within two weeks in order to confirm your spot in the program. 

6) Email all remaining application materials:
 
 a. approval of particpation
 b. financial commitment form
 c. clear copy of passport
 d. release

 before the application deadline for the semester for which you are applying.  

7) You will also need to submit a physician's report of a current medical examination (see medical form below).  Please make your doctor's appointment early as it can often be difficult to see doctors at the last minute.

The application deadline:

Fall semester is June 15th (now extended to June 30th)

Spring semester is November 15th

Summer semester is March 31st

The program is generally limited to 14 students, and admissions are on a first come, first serve basis.

Full payment of program fees is due by:

July 15th for the Fall program

December 15th for the Spring program

April 30th for the Summer program 

The Mexico Solidarity Network offers a tuition discount of $500 for participants who pay tuition in full before May 31st for the Fall semester, August 31st for the Spring semester, or a $300 discount if paid in full by March 15th for the Summer semester.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and have completed one year of college-level Spanish or have an equivalent mastery of Spanish. Applicants are NOT required to be enrolled in a college or university in order to participate in the program. Preference is given to applicants who exhibit a history of commitment to grassroots political struggles. The ideal applicant is highly motivated and open to new experiences. Youth of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
