Tom Hansen is the National Coordinator of the Mexico Solidarity
Network. From 1988 to 1997 Tom was the Director of Pastors for Peace.
From 1987 to 1988 he organized the first national material aid caravan
to Latin America as National Coordinator of the Veterans Peace Convoy
to Nicaragua. From 1984-1986 he was co-founder of the New York-Nicaragua
Construction Brigade. He is near completion of a doctorate in rural development
at the UAM-Xochimilco in Mexico City.
Macrina Cárdenas de Alarcon is the Legislative Coordinator
of the Mexico Solidarity Network in Washington, DC. Macrina has 30 years
of political organizing experience in the US and Mexico. For the past
12 years her major focus has been immigrant rights in the United States,
including 8 years with the Diocese of Rochester in New York State.
Peggy Valdés is the Grassroots Coordinator of the Mexico Solidarity
Network in Chicago, IL.
Abigail Thornton is a grassroots organizer in the
Chicago office. She works directly with undocumented workers struggling
to organize in Chicago, organizes tours and delegations to Mexico, and
coordinates the medical aid program for Chiapas. She also coordinates
the study abroad program in Mexico. Abby graduated from the
University of Texas, where she focused on political and economic
development in Latin America.
Jennifer Miller is an organizer based in our
Chicago, IL office. Jennifer previously coordinated the
Alternative Economy Program, and is now the teaching assistant on the
Study Abroad Program in Mexico. Prior to working for the Mexico
Solidarity Network, she organized for 2 years with Acción
Zapatista Humboldt in Arcata, CA. Her studies at Humboldt State
University focused on women's grassroots organizations and cooperatives
in Southern Mexico as alternatives to neoliberal development.
Verónica Rosario Leyva
is a grassroots organizer in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Veronica has
spent ten years working in the maquiladora industry, and has been
organizing in her community for fifteen years conducting workshops on
worker's and women's rights. She has also been involved with the
struggle for justice for the victims of the femicides in Ciudad Juarez.
Veronica has worked with various organizations in civil society
struggling to change the overall living conditions in her community,
and was most recently working with CETLAC (Centro de Estudios y Taller
Laboral), until joining the MSN.
Emily
O'Neill is the Alternative Economy Program Coordinator in the Chicago
office. She is particularly interested in immigrant rights, and
prior to moving to Chicago was involved with immigrant communities and
organizations in the Twin Cities. She is a recent graduate from
Macalester College, where she focused her studies on Latin American
politics, social movements and literature.
Daniel Pacheco is the Legislative Assistant in the Washington, DC office.
Celeste Escobar is a grassroots organizer in our Chicago, IL office.
