The base of the Mexico Solidarity Network is located in cities and towns across the US, and every program is coordinated closely with the base. The ambitious program of the Network would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers who make it happen. For example, a typical program is coordinated on a national level by staff, but all local arrangements, from logistics to press conferences, are organized by the grassroots. National staff produces educational materials, but the base does the vast majority of distribution. Staff works closely with volunteers across the country to develop organizing skills in outreach, media work, fundraising and education. The Mexico Solidarity Network works with 200 local coordinators in communities and universities across the US. In 2003 the Mexico Solidarity Network organized projects and worked with grassroots activists in 38 states.

The MSN maintains an in-house email list of 2,800 subscribers with whom we maintain regular contact and who receive our weekly Mexico News and Analysis. Our in-house mailing list includes 7,000 supporters and members.

The governing body of the Mexico Solidarity Network is the Steering Committee, which directs the over-all work of the MSN. In addition, staff consults regularly with sister organizations in Mexico with whom we coordinate closely on many programs. Currently the Network has eight staff based in Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, DC. The staff/Steering Committee ethnic and gender breakdown is:

  • 18% male, 82% female
  • 50% Mexican/Mexican-American, 50% Anglo-American
