Financial Aid

The Master's in Community Organizating and Popular Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) and the Autonomous University of Social Movements (AUSM) offers several options for financial aid:

  • Financial aid is available through the UWM Office of Financial Aid. Most financial aid through UWM is limited to loans.
  • The Autonomous University of Social Movements offers a modest scholarship program, with preference for committed community organizers and first or second generation immigrants who demonstrate financial need. To apply for a scholarship please complete the application attached below and e-mail to AUSM [at] mexicosolidarity [dot] org
  • AUSM offers a unique work-study option for students who want to earn part of their tuition while doing organizing work. Students can organize and accompany one speaking tour per semester. Each tour features a speaker from a Mexican social movement, arranged by AUSM. Work-study students organize the logistics for a one to two week tour, as well as accompany the tour as logistics manager and translator. This is a great opportunity to meet solidarity activists around the US and develop public speaking abilities.
  • The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund gives about 25 grants per year from $2,000 to $10,000 for students. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity.
