Labor rights

The Mexico Solidarity Network works with the Authentic Worker Front (FAT) to support labor struggles in Mexico. The FAT is an independent federation of labor unions, worker owned cooperatives, farm worker and community organizations committed to creating independent, democratic unions under extremely adverse conditions. The FAT was a key founder and active participant in RMALC (the Mexican Action Network Against Free Trade), the coalition of more than 100 Mexican organizations opposed NAFTA, and has in recent years worked to analyze the impact of neo-liberal economic policies and create positive proposals for change. The Mexico Solidarity Network coordinates an annual May Day delegation of US labor activists through the California State Employees Association, SEIU,who link with active labor struggles in Mexico and participate in the May Day march. We also coordinate popular education programs with grassroots labor activists.

The Mexico Solidarity Network works closely with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers , a group of immigrant farm-workers in southern Florida, and their national boycott of Taco Bell. The boycott is particularly strong in the upper Midwest where we have focused much of our organizing efforts. We are also scheduling a series of popular education forums and speaking tours featuring one speaker on corporate-centered globalization and one speaker from the CIW talking about the Taco Bell boycott.

You can get involved:

  • Organize a delegation focused on international labor issues through your union local. The Mexico Solidarity Network can set up program, translation and logistics.
  • Sponsor a population education workshop on coporate-centered globalization and the impact on labor.
  • Join the Taco Bell boycott.
