Call for Global Peace March on Sept 13
Get Together in Shiba Park, Tokyo from all over the country
No War! No WTO!

Something is now shaking at our foot.
The number of persons killing himself has exceeded 30,000 for five consecutive years, which shows that 100 persons committed suicide every day. Here are many persons who want to work but don't have a job, youngsters who are becoming a "reserve-army" for the unemployed, or more and more homeless people.

We cannot expect pension or health insurance provided by the government any longer. Farming, forestry and fishery are declining. Small villages are disappearing one after another. The shopping streets which were busy enough to attract a lot of local habitants are now turning into a "Shutter-Street" where many traditional shops or stores put up the shutters or went bankrupt. Local industry or business or old shops are disappearing.

On the other hand, big projects, such as dams, highways and airports, are still in progress without any regard for local habitants or possible users. Obviously, this is the violence employed over our community or life.

Recently in Kooriyama, Fukushima-pref., some 200km north of Tokyo, DOCOMO, a mobile phone company established after privatization of public telecommunication services, forced down request of local people to build an iron tower for mobile phones.
The condition is getting more and more aggravated in our community or workplace, causing people anxiety.

The uncertainty attacking us at our foot is now spreading across the world, giving rise to poverty, hunger, violation of human rights, destruction of environment, and the like. If we try to identify the sources of the uncertainty, we'll find out a common root there -- that is, a Violence of Globalization with a market-oriented policy forcing deregulation or efficiency on people. The price tag is placed on everything including life, nature and culture, and it runs throughout the world. Now we live in such days. Those with money, capital or power are swallowing up the environment or natural resources owned or controlled by local people, and even culture or human resources. The world is faced with the reality that the rich are getting richer, and the poor are poorer.

The uncertainty brought about by globalization drives us to despair and triggers battles and terrorism. However, the powerful force, particularly the US never recognizes it, and instead, the administration is killing innocent persons and children with weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and Afghanistan, using the plausible pretext of the "war against terrorism."

On the other hand, the uncertainty also induces us to depend on the powerful force. Here in Japan, the government is aiming at transforming Japan into a country accepting entry into war, capitalizing on such feeling of uncertainty. The current Koizumi administration which enacted laws for watching all the people closely and national emergency defense by reason of unstable conditions in the Korean Peninsula, has decided "overseas-sending of Japanese Army" without enough deliberation, although we Japanese have succeeded in discouraging the decision through sixty years of our efforts or struggle against it since the War ended. In the end, Japan has changed into a country with armies whose guns are aimed at domestic and foreign people.

Now, both of corporate and military globalizations are integrated into a powerful connection, which is swaying the base of our life and creating a life crisis.

As you know, the international organization strongly promoting corporate globalization is WTO. The WTO Ministerial Meeting will be held in Cancun, Mexico from Sept 10 to 14. Now international social movements and NGOs are calling for joint action against Corporate Globalization and War on Sept 13 when the WTO Meeting will be called. The joint action called "Global March" is connected to our strong will for Peace against War and challenges against globalization to create a worldwide action aiming at Another World.

We are accepting the call to stage a "Global March" in Tokyo, challenging Violence caused by globalization which is occurring everywhere in the community or workplace in Japan in order to suggest an alternative for creating another world, opposing US and UK armies' occupation of Iraq and dispatch of Self-Defense Forces to the region by the Japanese government and seeking peace in the Korean Peninsula.
